Burgundy Holiday Cottage

Location and Directions

By Air:
The closest airport serviced direct from the U.K. is Paris D`Orly, on the south side of the city. You can also use Charles de Gaulle on the north side. If you plan to arrive by car from Paris, leave the A6 at exit 21, Nitry. Turn onto the D944 towards Avallon but turn to the left at Joux-la-ville (direction L`Isle sur Serein) and then bear left onto the D311 at the sign for Massangis. This leads down to the D86 which runs through the village. At the junction turn right and immediately after the bridge turn to the left at the P sign just before the church. Follow the road around and turn up to the right beside the church where you will see our house.

French Countryside Break

By Road:
If you drive from England, the easiest route is via Calais. In this case, take the A26 and after the payage keep on the main road through Reims to and beyond the next payage. At this stage the road is signed for Strasburg and Lyon. Follow the signs to Lyon which will take you back to a southerly route and onto the A26 (This happens about 30 km. beyond Reims and you may be taken by surprise; you will need to get into the right side lane of the autoroute).

About 80 km south of this junction pick up the sign for Auxerre and then exit onto the A5 signed for Auxerre/Orleans. Take the first exit off the A5; after the payage go up to the round-about and take the road signed Auxerre but leave it after a few hundred yards and take the D444 at the sign to Chaource. You will see a boulangerie on the left side as you go through Chaource; there is also a charcoutier/butcher and if you are running late you could pick up some supplies. Keep to this road until you get to Tonnerre when you must pick up the Avallon road, regaining the D944 and taking care not to go shooting on to Auxerre. When you are back on the D944 and after you have passed through the village of Yrouerre and have gone to the top of the hill beyond, take the left hand turning to Noyers, D86. There you should take the left fork on entering the village and drive straight through the cobbled road and out the other side. Take great care at the junction beyond the village because the island in the road has been placed by a committee who probably have relatives with a motor body repair shop. Head straight across at the junction and Massangis is 10km down the road. On entering the village turn left at the P sign and turn up beside the church where you will see our house.
